New Years In New York

The New Year plans for this year came together just before the deadline, but somehow… everything just went the right way. After making spontaneous reservations for our flights and hotel for NYC, I contacted an old friend who coincidentally turned up on the visit during that same weekend. As destiny would have it, he asked us to attend a black tie NYE party — and that was the beginning of the rest of the trip.

We came into the city on December 30th and immediately started with a full day of shopping (I had to get heels for the party, of course). The temperature was surprisingly warm compared to what you expect during winter in New York which made walking around more enjoyable.

New Year’s Eve began with our brunch at Le Pain Quotidien, where we had the most flaky French cream doughnut — definitely the highlight. After our leisurely walk in Central Park, we had a late lunch at Springbone and dinner at Serafina — all of which were vetted by the Seed Oil Scout app, that we used to find better restaurants with clean ingredients.

We dressed up for the party at our hotel and simply walked a few blocks to the venue. When the clock struck midnight, we passed the Yale Club to knock on my friend’s door once again before finally crashing for the night.

The first day of the new year was slow and relaxed – we had a long sleep-in, walking around Chinatown and then shopped in the West Village. Before we headed to the airport on January 2nd, we made one final stop at Citarella for some snacks. NYC was the best this time.
